The Foundation Hannoversche Kinderheilanstalt was founded in 1863 by weahlthy Hannover citizens. This was the basis for opening the first facility dedicated to the medical care of children. Meanwhile it remains the responsible body of the only Children’s Hospital in Hannover, the Kinderkrankenhaus auf der Bult, as well other institutions for the care of children and adolescents in Hannover and the Federal state of Lower Saxony. The Foundation has a prominent position amongst the non - governmental institutions for the support and care of sick, underprivileged and handicapped children in Germany. Of international reputation is the Centre for Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology of the Kinderkrankenhaus auf der Bult. Taking care of close to 600 children with diabetes melltius it is the largest pediatric diabetes center in Germany.

The Department of Medical Psychology of the Hannover Medical School has a long history of working on various diabetes projects. They have participated in developing all three age-adapted and certified diabetes education programs for children, adolescents and parents in Germany. Currently they are wrokin gon the 3. Edition of the Diabetes Youth Education Programm which includes a special teaching program for insulin pump therapy. In addition they have done the psychological testing in clinical studies investigating the anxiety levels with blood glucose testing, the diabetes treatment satisfaction of adolescents or factors associated with disease adaptation of families during the first year of diabetes. They have evaluated several national education programs also for diseases such as asthma or cystic fibrosis. The Hannover Medical School is one of the leading institutions in this field in Germany.

The University Hospital Motol is one of the most important health institutions in the Czech Republic. Its significance consists not only in the wide range of medical departments and its room capacity, but also in a rar homogeneous concentration of all treatment areas in one location. In this way, specialized medical and healthcare teams from various departments are gathered and, if necessary, can join together immediately, providing complete and complex care.
Department of Pediatrics of the University Hospital Motol is the biggest among pediatric departments in the Czech republic. It provides basic as well as very specialized care for sick children not only from Prague, but also from all over the country. There is a long tradition of care for diabetic children at the Department is nowadays regularly followed more then 400 diabetic children. There is and experienced diabetic team that includes physicians, educators, trained nurses, a dietician and a psychologist.

Necker - Enfants Malades, in Paris, is the largest Pediatric Hospital in France, with the most important and for many of them the most prestigious specialized pediatric Units, covering all but a few pediatric specialities. It is also the hospital with the greatest number of pediatric research Units, and the greatest number of reference centers for rare pediatric diseases. 
The Diabetes in Children and Adolescents Unit has more than 600 patients, along with a number of MODY, neonatal, cystic fibrosis and insulin resistant type diabetes children. The work of the Diabetes team has mainly focused on screening of several types of diabetes, investigation of phenotype-genotype relationship particularly on the metabolic side and, for the most recent years, on the development of educative tools and methods. This latest work has been conducted in close collaboration with the French Diabetes Association "Aide aux Jeunes Diabetiques" (AJD).

Clinique Pédiatrique or Kannerklinik,  is the only paediatric hospital in Luxembourg. In the nineties DECCP (Diabetes&Endocrine Care Clinique Pédiatrique) was created. Actually around 180 children and adolescents with diabetes mellitus are seen in this clinic by a multidisciplinary team. They participate in different national and international projects to improve diabetes care in children.

Diabeter is the first independently operating nationwide diabetes centre that is specialised of the treatment of children and adolescents with diabetes. It opended in 2006 through combining three different pediatric diabetes services in the area, the Ijsselland Ziekenhuis, the Erasmus MC Sophia University Childrens Hospital and the St. Franciscus Gasthuis creating a unique center in the Netherlands. The focus of treatment at Diabetes is secondary prevention. All patients have access to a mulitdisciplinary team from the onset of the disease.

Department of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes belongs to a large NHS Teaching trust Teaching trust that has been designated the best teaching hospital in England. The department has responsibility for the care of ~140 children with diabetes, many of whom have type 2 Diabetes or Neonatal Diabetes. It is a referral centre for complex diabetes cases and has a large and diverse ethnic and culturally mixed population. In addition there is a possible access to a further ~130 patients in the neighbouring district. The center has inceasing experience in insulin pump therapy. Furthermore there are close links with the adult departments locally for transition of care. Treatment is delivered by a multidisciplinary team, including pediatricians, diabetes nurse specialists, psychologist, dietitian, child and adolescent mental health physician.

Department of Pediatric Diabetology is a specialist part of University Children’s Hospital in Warsaw, founded 35years ago. It has three main pillars: in - and outpatient specialized care for diabetic patients, teaching of medical students and scientific activities. This unit is credited by Health Care Authority as a certified specialist in pediatrics and diabetology. Approximately 900 children with diabetes are managed on an outpatient basis, with 4000 consultations every year and close to 150 newly diagnosed patients are see. A multidisisciplinary team of diabetologists, educators, psychologists and nurses are available. It considered a references center for diabetic standard of education, recommendation and implementation modern technology in Poland. Currently Department is an initiator and coordinator of EU scientist program: Prevention of Coeliac Disease, is national center of Polish Prospective insulin Pump Study for Preschool children as well as partner of international multicentre studies such as PedPump and Onset.

The Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital in Gothenburg is the largest Pediatric Hospital in Sweden. It is connected to Sahlgrenska University Hospital which is regarded as the largest university hospital of northern Europe. At the Dept of Pediatric Diabetes, Obesity and Endocrinology we have extraordinary good facilities for and interest in combining clinical care of the patients with research in different fields. Growth disturbances and developement of prediction models, the Turner syndrom and surgery because of extreme obesity are of interest at the other departments of the clinic. The Diabetes Clinic at the hospital is visited by around 500 patients with diabetes, mainly Type 1 but also a few with Type 2, MODY and neonatal diabetes. The treatment regime is based on insulin pump in 30% of the patients and the team can use the CGMS, GuardianRealTime, Diasend on a routine base. The Swedisch National Diabetes Registry (SWEDAIBKIDS) is located at the clinic. All pediatric diabetes units in Sweden are included in this registry.

Diabetes Center of P&A Kyraikou Childrens’s Hospital is the principle referral centre for children and adolescents with diabetes from all over Greece. It has 1000 children registered with 450 visiting the centre on regular periods every 3 month. Diabetes Center belongs to the Department of Pediatrics. The staff consists of two doctors, three nurses and one dietician. In addition the Diabetes center cooperate with the Department of Social Medicine, located at the same building of the Hospital to cover the needs for psychological assistance of the patients.

The Cristian Serban Foundation is a non-profit non-governmental organization that aimed and succeeded in building and establishing a hospital for evaluation, education, therapy and rehabilitation of the children with diabetes, hemophilia and other chronically dieseases, in Buzias spa, Timis county: The Evaluation and Rehabilitation Clinic Center for Children and Adolescents "Cristian Serban" buzias has opened in 1997 and is a medical institution for children and young people, with ages between 0 and 30years. Given its specific and the large number of patients in same place, in the same time, this center, unique in Romania, is one of the largest ind Europe. Soon after its completion, this medical institution became part of the Romanian healthcare system. The Clinical Medical Cneter "Cristian Serban" is a modern hospital with a 50-bed capacity, functioning in 2-bed and 3-bed rooms, all year round, in series of 12-14 days.
